Novi Sutanto
Counselling Psychologist.
Novi is an endorsed Counselling Psychologist with a passion for relationships. She believes that learning to relate, with ourselves and others, is a lifelong process, and an enriching one, for which therapy can provide the space for meaningful exploration. Through her years of practice, Novi continues to hold curiosity for the many ways (mostly unconscious) we have developed to cope with difficulties. This may look like anxiety, depression, relationship issues, burnout, fatigue, addiction, etc. She enjoys working with people who would like to be more curious about themselves, and together work collaboratively to experience possibilities for change.
She hopes to offer a gentle, warm, empathic, and compassionate presence, in holding a safe space, combined with an integrative approach to therapy, using her knowledge in mindfulness and somatic-based psychotherapy as a Hakomi graduate, Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychodynamic, and the relational frame. One of her many interests is learning, and she is trained as a couple therapist at Relationships Australia Victoria, and in eco-psychotherapy, and was in the first cohort trained by Monash and MAPS in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy in 2023. She is proud to be amongst the last cohort that completed a Master of Counselling Psychology in Victoria, the school of psychology with a non-pathologising view, and aims to support psychologists in supervision in the future as she completes her Supervisor Training.
Novi also has a background in film production and aims to use her life experiences and learned skills to inform her in refining her ways of relating, both in and out of the therapy room. She loves music, literature, and the art of storytelling, and is always looking for ways to complement who she is, what she loves, and what she does.
Growing up and living across Asia, USA, and Australia, Novi hopes to always hold an open and affirming stance that is culturally sensitive and socially inclusive, and regard you as the expert of your own life.
She speaks both English and Indonesian.
